As a cavity starts to grow it can spread quickly. This process of tooth decay can be accelerated by poor oral hygiene practices or failing to attend your routine dental checkup at Finesse Dental Care’s dental office.

As the tooth decay worsens you might notice increasing sensitivity and discomfort in the tooth. If too much healthy tooth enamel has been lost to repair the tooth with a dental filling, our dentists, Dr. Steven Hever or Dr. Justin Stout might need to replace the entire tooth enamel layer with a dental crown.

They will start the treatment process by developing an abutment capable of anchoring the dental crown. This is done by removing the entire tooth enamel layer leaving behind the underlying healthy dentin.

Once this is done they will prepare an impression of the area, including the adjacent teeth and the related teeth in your bite pattern. The abutment will then be covered with a temporary crown and the impression will be sent to a dental lab where your dental crown is made.

You will need to return to see your dentist when the dental crown is ready. This appointment will be short as he simply needs to remove the temporary crown and cement the new dental crown onto the abutment.

If you live in the Westlake Village, California, area and you have a tooth suffering from an untreated cavity, we invite you to call (805) 742-4749 to seek treatment at Finesse Dental Care.
